Trisha Huynh teaches fourth graders. She brings many perspectives to her role as an educator and she will talk to the American Association of University Women (AAUW), Oakdale, Riverbank, Escalon Branch about how she developed those perspectives at the group’s Thursday, Oct. 21 meeting beginning at 7 p.m. on Zoom.
Huynh shares this about herself: “I originally grew up in Cupertino, California, as the daughter of two Vietnamese refugees. As a student, I learned to blend my home culture with the dominant culture of school. I went on to higher education and I had the opportunity to further delve into my identity at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. I learned through hands-on experiences and exploration. After graduating with a B.S. in liberal studies and minors in biology and Spanish, I taught English in Malaysia through The Fulbright Scholar Program. There, I immersed myself in Malaysian culture and began to shape my views of the world. I knew that I wanted to become an elementary teacher after this experience and attended Stanford University’s STEP program to receive my Master of Arts degree and credential. I currently teach fourth grade at Starr King Elementary School in San Francisco. This is my fifth year teaching.”
