The Counseling Department at Riverbank High School hosted a Career and College Fair on campus on Friday, Jan. 24.
It was designed to expose students to the “wonderful opportunities available to them,” as well as intended to help expand their horizons when considering a type of career they might like to pursue.
Although not every single organization invited was able to come, more than 43 were invited.
Most were included inside the Ray Fauria Memorial Gymnasium on campus, with tables, chairs and other display space available, but a number of local first responders set up in the parking lot out front.
This was because the equipment they brought included operating emergency equipment.
The Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department brought Engine 26 from the downtown station, while the School Resource Officer brought his patrol vehicle that’s part of the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office fleet.
Another display featured emergency equipment used by AMR paramedics, including an ambulance.
Inside the gym, a wide variety of businesses, industries, employee organizations, as well as a number of public and private educational institutions were represented.
In one back corner of the gym, military recruiters were grouped together. The Marine Corps representatives provided a chin up challenge to see how some of the students could fare against each other.
Army and Navy recruiters were also available on site.
The morning was scheduled so that seniors could participate from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.; eighth graders and Adelante Continuation High School students participated from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
The time period of 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. was for junior class members, 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for sophomores; 11:30 a.m. to noon for ninth graders, with all students able to circle back and attend for a few minutes around noon.
At noon, most displays began to be dismantled by presenters, since that was campus lunch time, and most students had already had an opportunity to attend.
Teacher Emily Cowdrey’s Nutrition Class provided food to those presenting to the students.
