Attending a ‘Zoom’ meeting this month, members of the Riverbank Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee connected with a district representative of the National Parks Service to discuss the Jacob Myers Park master plan. Ric McGinnis/The News

Riverbank’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee members gathered for their July 17 meeting and virtually attended a Zoom presentation in the department office. They were informed by a district representative of the National Parks Service on possibilities for funding assistance as the city prepares to upgrade its Master Plan for Jacob Myers Park soon.

In addition to funding sources available for grants, the NPS representative said they could help cities develop new standards for revising their parks plans. Although Jacob Myers has a Master Plan in place, it is approximately 20 years old and needs modernization, according to city Parks and Recreation Director Michael Patton.

Friends of Jacob Myers Park, a non-profit organization formed 24 years or so ago, has been working to help acquire an extension to the west of the current park boundaries on to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers property, to be able to build a rugged biking trail there, among other additions.

Members of the Friends organization were also invited to the committee’s Zoom meeting.
