Council, RUSD races looming in November
vote

Candidates have put their names in for Mayor and Council races in Riverbank, with Friday, Aug. 9 deadline being the deadline for filing for the November election.

Incumbent council member Rachel Hernandez, in District 2, filed to run for mayor, and therefore is not running for reelection to the council.

There is a candidate who filed for District 2, Cynthia (Cindi) L. Fosi, who formerly served in the position, before Hernandez was elected in 2020.

Current Mayor Richard D. O’Brien filed to retain his seat by the Friday deadline and Soloman Kumar also filed for mayor, setting up a three-way race in November.

There are also three candidates vying for the District 4 council seat. Incumbent Darlene Barber-Martinez, Roxanna Garcia, and Stacy Call have filed for the Nov. 5 election.

Many years ago, the city consolidated its municipal elections with the Statewide General Election. Voters in Stanislaus County received information about the Presidential General Election in November in the mail.

The postcard included instructions about casting ballots that the county clerk/recorder expects to mail out beginning Oct. 7.

The information indicates that there are several ways to cast a ballot: by mail; in an official ballot drop box; or at a curbside drop box.

An additional way to cast a ballot is at a vote center. Several vote centers will open Saturday, Oct. 26, and more open on Saturday, Nov. 2 for early voting ahead of the Nov. 5 election.

Meanwhile, there is one race for a seat on the Riverbank Unified School District Board. In Area 1, incumbent Ernie J. Velasco faces challenger Gary Vernon. Ana M. Vigil is unopposed in Area 5.
