Riverbank High School FFA students competed in two speaking competitions, the FFA Creed and the Job Interview competition last week. There were three students from RHS that competed with Abby Luna placing third and moving on to the regional competition.
Luna and Jocelynne Castro competed in the Job Interview and Chantel Andalon competed in the Creed contest that was held virtually due to COVID. There were about 10 other schools in their section that participated in the competition. There are 79 other schools that participate in the regional competition.
Agriculture Instructor Brittney Fiore explained that students are required to present and compete in front of three judges for both competitions. She said that the students are asked a variety of questions that pertain to their contest.
“Chantel and Jocelynne did not place in the top five but did very well for their first competition,” stated Fiore. “Competing virtually was a challenge because of internet issues. Students do not get the same interactions with students and judges online.”
The FFA Officers at Riverbank this year are President Luna, Vice President Tessa Price, Secretary Jocelyn Razo, Treasurer Pablo Albor, Reporter Castro, and Sentinel Carlos Garcia.
Fiore has been at RHS for three years as a science pathway teacher and FFA instructor. There are 200 students in the FFA program which she expressed doubled in size from last year.
