California Avenue Elementary School hosts an assembly every month to celebrate the success of its students. Teachers at each grade level will select their students for an Accelerated Reader (AR) trophy, Citizenship Award, and Student of the Month honors.

The AR recognition may be for passing the word list, reading, most words read, most AR tests passed or reading improvement.

The Citizenship award is given to students for demonstrating a life skill like Perseverance, which was the life skill highlighted for the month of January.

To receive a Student of the Month award, the student must be doing a great job academically in a specific subject or made exceptional efforts in class.
