The filing process began this week for the 2024 November Election for the office of Riverbank mayor and two of the four city council members.

The filing period for this year’s election is Monday, July 15 through Friday, Aug. 9. The election for Mayor is citywide, while the seats for Districts 2 and 4 are also open.

Current District 2 Council Member is Rachel Hernandez, while District 4 Council Member is Darlene Barber-Martinez.

As of press deadline, Mayor Richard D. O’Brien had pulled papers to run for reelection, while in District 2, Cindy Fosi, and in District 4, Roxana Garcia, had taken out papers, but none were filed yet.

Although Council Member Hernandez has indicated a desire to run for Mayor, no action had been taken to pull those papers yet, but it’s early in the process. All candidates have until Aug. 9 to file their completed papers.

Those who are interested in filing, or for more information, can contact the City Clerk and Election Officer, Gabriela Hernandez, at cityclerk@riverbank.org, or 209-863-7198.

Registered voters who live within the respective boundary of a district may run as a candidate for office and vote for a nominated candidate in that particular district. The mayor is elected citywide, and any eligible registered voter in Riverbank may run for this seat.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024.
