Graffiti Week rolls in for automobile aficionados

Graffiti Week participants took time to visit Riverbank for an evening of fun on Thursday, June 6 and a number of local hot rodders got to show off their vehicles, while taking advantage of the shady side of a nearby building. The week where nearby Modesto celebrates the graffiti craze created by native son George Lucas shared a bit of the hoopla with residents in Riverbank.

Thursday, June 6 saw hot rodders, custom and classic car enthusiasts visit the parking expanse between Cool Hand Luke’s restaurant and the iMax area of Galaxy Theatres on Patterson Road.

For nearly as far as the eye could see, rows and rows of vehicles, some in pristine condition, some in different stages of repair were available to view, and – for many attendees – sometimes drool over.

Owners were nearby, many in the shade of trees, others with their own pop-up tents to keep cooler.

With the near- or at triple digit temperatures last week, the day happened to be the hottest that week, and the hottest so far this season, at 103 degrees. It may have limited the number of visitors not wanting to brave the heat.

Festivities moved on the next day, with a car parade ‘cruise’ through downtown Modesto on Friday, along with other car shows on the Modesto Junior College campus over the weekend.
