There was a junction in youth sports in Riverbank on Saturday, Feb. 12 this past weekend, with basketball for local youngsters coming to a close on the same day that baseball was getting underway.
The Riverbank Youth Basketball Clinic held its final day of intramural games in the Ray Fauria Memorial Gymnasium on the RHS campus, finishing up its 52nd year, sponsored by Bruin boys and girls basketball coaches and teams.
Groups were divided by age groups, with a different level starting every hour. Seventh and eighth graders played at noon to close out the season. The six-week program began in early January.
Also on Saturday, the Riverbank Youth Baseball Softball Association was holding its tryouts, on the fields at Castleberg Park.
Coaches divided up players on both diamonds throughout the day, working on game skills, such as fielding and throwing the ball, from infield positions.
Baseball and softball players will be gearing up for Opening Day, set for March 19, weather permitting, with a parade from the Riverbank Community Center to the park. Assembly will begin at 8 a.m. The schedule for pictures is scheduled to be announced later.
The season is set to finish up on May 14.
