Library branch offers September programs
SC Library

Master Gardeners will make a stop at the Riverbank branch library on Santa Fe Street on Saturday, Sept. 14, just one of the programs on the schedule at the local library this month.

First up, the Bilingual Story Time is set for Tuesday, Sept 10 at 11 a.m.

Bilingual Story Time features books, stories, songs, fingerplays, rhymes, and more. Some material is presented in English while other material is presented in Spanish, allowing for more natural transitions and exposing children to both languages in an inviting environment. It is designed for children under five and their caregivers but all ages are welcome. Space is limited and available on a first come, first served basis.

On Saturday, Sept. 14, join in as the University of California Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners visit the local branch to help attendees at the 2 p.m. program create a California Native Plant Garden.

Many California native plants are water-wise, easy to care for, and have colorful flowers. In addition, creating a habitat in your landscape provides food and shelter for native pollinators like bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Learn how to create your own native garden with assistance from the Master Gardeners.

Tuesday, Sept. 17 features Story Time, designed for kids five and under and their caregivers, at 11 a.m., followed by the Mayor’s Book Club at 11:30 a.m.

Mayor Richard D. O’Brien takes time to read books to preschool age children after the regularly scheduled Story Time concludes, helping promote early childhood reading skills.

Rounding out the day on Sept. 17, the Paper Cup Squirrel Craft is offered to kids of all ages and materials are provided, with the event at 3:30 p.m.

Tuesday, Sept. 24, the Bilingual Story Time is at 11 a.m., and the Book Club meets at 4 p.m.

This month, the club members will discuss ‘The Soldier’s Wife’ by Margaret Leroy.

The Riverbank library, at 3442 Santa Fe, is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Wednesday, noon to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; closed Friday and Sunday.
