Big Screen Returns To Jacob Myers Park

The return of warm weather to the Riverbank area also brings a return of a family favorite: Movies in the Park.

There are four scheduled free showings of films on a big screen set up in Jacob Myers Park coming up. Sponsored by the city’s Recreation and Parks Department, the first will be shown this weekend.

The Borrowers is on tap for screening this Saturday, June 18. The movies will begin at sundown, rec officials said, between 8:45 p.m. and 9 p.m., they estimate. This week’s feature stars John Goodman and Hugh Laurie, released in 1997.

Three more movies are on the schedule, two in July, and one near the end of August.

On Saturday, July 16, The Sandlot us scheduled to be shown, then on July 30, it will be Date Night, starring Steve Carell and Tina Fey. Since this film is rated for adults 18+, the recreation department is planning on hosting a ‘Kids Night Out’ that evening, starting at 8 p.m. at the Riverbank Teen Center, to allow parents to enjoy the film.

The final movie is set for Aug. 20, when they’ll be showing The Mask of Zorro.
