A two-man city maintenance crew was working this past week to restore the signage on the number one water storage tank at Patterson Road and First Street in Riverbank.
Following an earlier, overall coat of paint, the pair was working on Thursday, Sept. 15 masking, outlining and painting letters in the word ‘Riverbank’ on the southern side of the tank, facing Patterson Road. With little shade and the southern exposure, they were out in the sun most of the time they worked. Luckily, temperatures late last week were primarily in the 80s, not the triple digit heat that returned to the area on Monday.
Where the tank had been a lighter color tan and had turquoise colored letters, the new color scheme features a darker tan base and dark blue lettering.
By Friday, the work on the letters was about halfway complete. One of the workers said that when they finished up there, probably sometime this week, they’d move on to the much newer tank on Saxon, next to Crossroads Elementary School.
And it doesn’t have any lettering that will need restoration.
