School ended last week, just as the Riverbank Certified Farmers Market picked up speed going into the summer season.
Food vendors and farmers selling fresh fruit and vegetables were on hand, as well as special entertainment provided as part of the special ‘Concerts in the Park’ got underway in earnest.
As the summer progresses, Riverbank Chamber of Commerce officials will be adding different performers as well as new features. A bounce house is expected today, June 1, and movies after dark are also due to return as an added attraction at the weekly Wednesday evening market.
Last week’s performer was guitarist/singer Paul Espinoza, who is a member of the trio Golden Bough. The group normally performs traditional Celtic music, but as a solo artist, Espinoza likes to exercise his rock and roll roots, with acoustic electric versions of those classic old tunes.
A different performance is scheduled for each week, according to organizers.
Also coming up later this month is the Senior Coupon Night, set for Wednesday, June 15 in Riverbank.
The Area Agency on Aging will be distributing the Senior Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program Coupons again this year. Eligibility: Must be 60 or older and have a limited income ($1,815 month for one person or $2,456 for two). The coupons will be given out on a first come first serve basis and each booklet contains a total of $20 worth of coupons to buy fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, and honey. Again, they will be available in Riverbank for the market of Wednesday, June 15.
The weekly market is staged at the Community Center Park, 3600 Santa Fe, just across from Cardozo Middle School, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. each Wednesday, until September.
