Gymnasiums are among the local businesses allowed to re-open following relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions in parts of the state, and one has taken advantage of the new situation.
Fit Republic Health Club is at 2210 Patterson Road in Riverbank, in what originally was the Blockbuster Video store, near CVS Pharmacy. The other two gyms in town, Aspen 24-Hour Fitness, also on Patterson, and the H.I.I.T. Club, on Santa Fe Street downtown, had not re-opened officially, as of this past Saturday, June 13.
Under Governor Newsom’s Phase 3 protocols of the re-opening, gyms are allowed to operate with a few modifications.
Over the weekend, the Fit Republic had re-opened, but with changes in how equipment is used, and with slightly shorter hours.
The exercise room, where Zumba and Yoga is taught, had been modified in that fewer people are being allowed in classes. Out on the main floor, equipment that can’t be moved six feet apart, for social distancing, is found with every other unit roped off with caution tape.
A sign on the check-in desk indicates that only 43 members will be allowed in at the same time. Effective last Monday, updated weekday open hours are set from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends.
