Top spellers from area schools will compete in the Stanislaus County Elementary Spelling Championship this week.
The Elementary Spelling Championship, for children in grades four through six, is slated for Thursday, Nov. 3 at Enochs High School, 3201 Sylvan Ave., Modesto. Sponsored by the Stanislaus County Office of Education, the event is open to the public and begins promptly at 5:30 p.m.
Schools or districts participating in this year’s Elementary Spelling Championship include:
Chatom, Denair, Empire, Great Valley Academy, Hart-Ransom, Hickman, Hughson, Keyes, Modesto City, Newman-Crows Landing, Oakdale, Our Lady of Fatima, Paradise, Patterson, Riverbank, Sacred Heart, Stanislaus Union, St. Stanislaus, Sylvan Union, Turlock, University Charter, and Waterford.
The top two spellers in the Elementary Spelling Championship will represent Stanislaus County at the state competition in Stockton on May 13, 2017. The third place speller will serve as an alternate. The Spelling Championship for Junior High Students is scheduled for Dec. 6.
