Members of local guild create “community” quilts
Quilt 10-2
This is just one of seven ‘challenge’ quilts that were created by teams of quilters active in the Oakdale Quilters Guild. Tickets are available at $1 each or six for $5 for the quilts, which will be raffled off to benefit the guild’s philanthropic projects. Photo Contributed

Oakdale Quilters Guild members were challenged by their Guild President this year to “Let’s get together to Build Community.”

The challenge was to work in teams of four to six people to complete a quilt between 30”-by-40” minimum and 90”-by-120” maximum. The quilt pattern was to be a row by row or a round robin to allow each member to construct at least one part of the quilt. There were about 34 quilters on seven teams that completed seven quilts.

As one of the guild’s fundraisers this year, members are selling raffle tickets for all seven quilts. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. The money raised through the sale of tickets will help fund the group’s philanthropic efforts for the quilts and giveaways in the community.

Winners will be drawn on Thursday, Dec. 12 at the guild meeting.

The quilts are on display through Friday, Oct. 4 at Blossom Quilting, in the River Road Plaza, Highway 120 and River Road. The quilts will then be displayed at The Lily Pad quilt shop, 1214 W. F St., Suite A-4 in Oakdale from Saturday, Oct. 5 to Saturday, Oct. 19. On Saturday, Nov. 9 the quilts will be on display in the banquet room of Oakdale’s H-B Restaurant from noon to 4 p.m.

The Oakdale Quilters Guild meets on the second Thursday of the month at Community United Methodist Church, 1480 Poplar St., Oakdale, at 6:30 p.m.

Guests are welcome; if you are a seasoned quilter, confident beginner or just wanting to learn to quilt, all interested from throughout the region are encouraged to join in. The next meeting is coming up on Oct. 10.
