The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Jan. 7 through Monday, Jan. 13. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, JAN. 13
Battalion 5: Crews performed Monday apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Crews conducted company level training in their respective FMA’s.
Chief Serpa and Captain Brazil are assisting as Strike Team Leaders on the Eaton Fire. Their strike team provided structure protection on critical infrastructure on Mt. Wilson Observatory. Crews also assisted with patrolling fire lines.
SUNDAY, JAN. 12
Battalion Chief Serpa and Captain Brazil remain assigned with Stanislaus Brush 24 to the Eaton Incident in Los Angeles County. Crews spent the day protecting Mt. Wilson Observatory, critical communication infrastructure and patrolling a small piece of line. Crews also assisted with the mobile retardant base.
MST Brush 1 is assigned to the Eaton Incident on 24-hour rest day.
Battalion 2: Crews completed station and apparatus maintenance.
Battalion 5: Engine 27 conducted company level ladder evolution training.
SATURDAY, JAN. 11
BC Serpa and Captain Brazil are assigned with Stanislaus Brush 24 to the Eaton Incident on a 24-hour rest day.
MST Brush 1 is assigned to the Eaton Incident on tactical patrol in Altadena.
Battalion 2: Crews completed Saturday drills.
7:36 p.m. – Engine 26, Engine and Water Tender 27, Quint 22 and BC5 responded to Langworth Road for machinery inside a building on fire. Engine 26 found a small commodity fire inside a hopper. Engine/WT 27 assisted to complete extinguishment.
Battalion 5: Crews performed apparatus checks and Saturday station maintenance.
Crews conducted Saturday Company Level Training in their respective FMA’s.
FRIDAY, JAN. 10
Modesto Brush 1 deployed to the Eaton Fire in Southern California.
Stanislaus Brush 24, part of XST 4200C, performing mop-up at the Eaton Fire.
Battalion 2: Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
11:57 a.m. – Engine 24, Engine 23, Engine 9, Engine 28, Engine 21, Quint 22 Battalion 5 and Battalion Chief 2 were dispatched to a structure fire at Yosemite Boulevard and Hazeldean Road, in Waterford. Upon arrival, Engine 24 found a small fire on the roof of an unoccupied building. Engine 24 and Engine 23 extinguished the fire and cancelled the balance of the response.
Battalion 5: Station 27 crews assisted with B platoon vacation picks.
9:59 a.m. – Engine 9, E26 and BC5 were dispatched to a vehicle accident on Claus Road near Sante Fe Avenue in east Modesto. One driver refused treatment and CHP was on scene for the investigation.
THURSDAY, JAN. 9
Battalion 2: Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Crews conducted company training.
3:56 p.m. – Engine 24, Engine 23, Engine 28, Engine 9, Engine 21, Quint 22, Medic 1, Battalion Chief 2 and Battalion Chief 3 responded to an unknown fire in the area of Fourth Street and Montpelier Road, in Hickman. Engine 24 found an RV on fire that was threatening nearby structures. Crews performed an offensive fire attack and extinguished the fire.
Battalion 5: BC5 Crews conducted auto extrication training at the Oakdale Auto Recyclers. Firefighters sharpened their skills using various hydraulic tools to force open vehicles for rescue purposes.
E27, E28 and BC5 did a walkthrough of the historic Oak Valley Bank Clock Tower building in Oakdale. It is a large two-story brick building with modifications and renovations. The layout and multiple entrances and exit, along with a substantial basement would prove challenging in the event of a fire. The crews take note of the layout when inside thus pre-planning for a potential incident.
WEDNESDAY, JAN. 8
Battalion 2: Brush 24 assisting at the Eaton Fire as part of XST 4200C in southern California. The fire still has no containment.
Battalion 5: The Station 27 crew conducted vacation and holiday picks for A-Shift.
BC5 attended the Valley Home MAC Meeting.
2:09 p.m. – Engine 26, Engine 28, and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident with injuries at Patterson Road and Bentley Road in Oakdale. Crews arrived on scene of a solo vehicle accident with the vehicle in a ditch on the north side of Patterson Road. The two occupants of the vehicle had minor injuries and were treated by Oak Valley Ambulance.
BC Serpa and Captain Brazil are assigned with ST XST42000-C on the Eaton Fire in Los Angeles County. They were assigned to Division Z in the City of Altadena to structure defense and have worked to save dozens of homes.
TUESDAY, JAN. 7
Chief Wise presented Battalion Chiefs Winton and Rice with their 25 years of service certificate. Deputy Chief Avila was presented with his 30 years of service certificate.
Battalion 2: Firefighter Ortiz completed his orientation at DMC in preparation for his paramedic intern shifts in the Emergency Room.
Engines 23 and 26 trained on hose pulls in Station 26’s FMA.
Brush 24 was deployed as part of XST4200C heading to the Eaton Fire in Los Angeles County.
Battalion 5: Crews completed apparatus and station maintenance.
Chief Serpa and Captain Brazil deployed at 11 p.m. as Strike Team Leader and Strike Team Leader Trainee to the Palisades Fire in southern California. The extreme wind event in southern California is drawing resources from across the state to assist.
