The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Jan. 14 through Monday, Jan. 20. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, JAN. 20
Chief Serpa and Captain Brazil still assigned to Strike Team 4200C in Southern California. They were assigned to staging as surge for any IA incidents until 7 p.m.
HM41 assigned to the Hazmat Group in Branch 1 Division M. Supporting a humanitarian repopulation mission. HM 41 is the Quick Reaction Team mitigating identified hazards. Staged in the Palisades Highlands, Drop Point 1. Working with HM 12 LA City, and HM 42, South County (Tracy).
Battalion 5: Crews conducted weekly apparatus checks and station bay maintenance.
8:44 p.m. – Engine 27, E28, E9 and BC5 responded to Claribel Road and Bentley Road for reports of an injury accident with entrapment. E28 arrived on scene with two vehicles involved with a vehicle rollover. E28 assessed the first vehicle as E27 assessed the second. All occupants of the vehicles self-extricated. One patient was transported. CHP is investigating.
SUNDAY, JAN. 19
Two members of Modesto Fire continue to be assigned to the Eaton Fire as Strike Team Leader and Assistant Strike Team Leader.
HazMat 41 with HazMat Team members are assigned to the Palisades Fire providing decontamination for USAR teams and hazard identification for areas identified.
Battalion 2: Crews trained in their first due areas and worked on station projects.
Battalion 5: Engine 27 and E28 conducted company level training that focused on rural water supply options.
SATURDAY, JAN. 18
BC Serpa and Captain Brazil are assigned to the Easton Incident with XST 4200-C. Crews are assigned to the Mount Wilson Observatory.
Haz Mat 41 is assigned to the Palisade Incident. They are assigned to USAR Task Force 7 working 12-hour shifts out of the Malibu Base Camp.
Battalion 2: 2:38 p.m. – Engine 21, Engine 1, Engine 3, Engine 19, Truck 5, Medic 1, BC1, and BC2 responded to the 1500 block of Mono Drive for a working structure fire. Engine located three travel trailers on fire. Two people were displaced, and FIU is investing.
Battalion 5: Companies performed apparatus and equipment checks.
Crews performed weekly station maintenance.
Companies participated in Saturday drill day, performing such as ladder raises, hose pulls and estimates, pumping and area familiarization.
11:21 a.m. – Engine 29 and Battalion 5 were dispatched to assist Cal Fire with a vehicle fire on Highway 4 east of Telegraph Road near Copperopolis. Their first apparatus arrived with an extinguished vehicle fire. All resources were canceled.
1:23 p.m. – MST resources were dispatched to the area of Foothills Court and Willowglen in the City of Oakdale for a working residential structure fire. E27 reported a smoker in the backyard and canceled the balance.
6:59 p.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28 and Battalion 5 were dispatched to the area of Highway 120 near Walnut Avenue for a motorcycle down. Engine 28 reported a single patient with minor injuries. Engine 28 and Oak Valley medics performed patient care. Engine 27 was canceled.
FRIDAY, JAN. 17
OES Haz Mat 41 is assigned to USAR Task Force 7 working 12-hour shifts on the Palisades Incident.
Modesto Brush 1 completed demobilization from the Eaton Incident and returned to Modesto this evening.
Battalion 5: Battalion 5 crews reported to their first shift on C Platoon for the next two years after completing their station bids. BC5 visited stations to see the new crews on their first shift at their new stations.
8:55 p.m. – Engine 7, Engine 26 and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident at the intersection of Claribel and Roselle Avenue in east Modesto. One driver was treated for minor injuries and transported to a local hospital.
THURSDAY, JAN. 16
MST companies rotated through Station 15 for annual fit testing.
Battalion 2: Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
7:05 p.m. – Engine 9, Brush 23, and Battalion 2 responded to a report of a vegetation fire on the side of Rice Road. Engine 9 found a small pile of vegetation on fire in a field. Engine 9 canceled the incoming units and extinguished the fire.
Battalion 5: Engine 27 and BC5 attended the Oakdale Fire Protection District meeting in Knights Ferry. Crews sat in on the proceedings to stay informed of happenings in the district.
E27 and E28 took advantage of the opportunity to have Tech Rescue Specialist Scott Sedgwick working in Battalion 5 and trained on rope rescue practices.
WEDNESDAY, JAN. 15
Battalion 2: Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Battalion 2 crews completed their annual mask fit testing.
Crews performed preventive maintenance.
Battalion 5: Crews performed apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Crews conducted company level training in their respective FMA’s.
6:45 a.m. – Engine 27, Engine 26, Engine 28 and Battalion 5 responded to a vehicle accident with pin-in on Langworth Road. Engine 26 arrived on scene to a vehicle vs. big rig with one patient pinned in the vehicle. Crews were able to quickly extricate the passenger and assisted Oak Valley Ambulance with patient care. The patient was transported to a local hospital for further treatment. Crews remained on scene for roughly an hour assisting CHP with traffic control.
TUESDAY, JAN. 14
Battalion 2: 11:39 a.m. – Engine 23, Quint 22, and Battalion 2 staged in the area of Church Street and McCoy Avenue for a subject threatening to burn down his house. Stanislaus sheriff’s deputies resolved the incident without injury, and all units were released.
2:53 p.m. – Engine 19, Engine 26, Quint 22 and Battalion 5 responded for a report natural gas leak inside in the 3500 block of Stanislaus Street. Engine 26 arrived on scene and investigated. Engine 26 was able to secure the gas leak and remained on scene for PG&E. The remainder of the response was cancelled.
2:30 a.m. – Engine 26, Engine 27, Engine 7, Engine 9, Engine 28, Quint 22, Battalions 5 and 1 along with Medic 1 responded to the report of a working structure fire in the 3900 block of Sierra Street. in Riverbank. Engine 26 arrived on scene to a single wide mobile home with smoke showing from the front of the home. Crews quickly knocked down the fire and searched the structure. The fire was contained to the kitchen area with smoke throughout the home. Crews remained on scene for approximately two hours for overhaul. Two occupants were displaced from the home and were going to stay with family.

Crews conducted company level training in their respective FMA’s.
Engine 29 assisted the US Postal carrier with a dead battery in Knights Ferry.
