The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Oct. 29 through Monday, Nov. 4. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, NOV. 4
Companies rotated through the RFTC for quarterly driver training.
The Training Division focused on in-service training for new Brush 1 and Brush 28 as well as OES 4118 and 4615.
Battalion 2: Crews conducted company level training.
Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment maintenance.
Battalion 5: Battalion 5 crews performed weekly apparatus checks and completed yard maintenance.
6:38 a.m. – Engine 28, E27, Q22 an BC5 were dispatched to ACE Hardware in Oakdale for smoke in the business. Crews found a bathroom fan that had caught fire overnight and burned itself out. Smoke was removed from the business and after checking to make sure the fire didn’t extend into the attic space; crews cleared the scene.
7:33 a.m. – Engine 27, E28 and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident on River Road and Valley Home Road in Oakdale. One patient was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
SUNDAY, NOV. 3
Battalion 5: 8:30 a.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Engine 28, Engine 29, and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident with injuries at Orange Blossom Road and Wamble Road. Engine 28 arrived on scene of a solo vehicle vs. two power poles. The driver of the vehicle was unresponsive inside the vehicle; crews gained access and removed the patient that was immediate. The patient was transported by air ambulance to the hospital. PG&E worked for the next several hours to restore power to the area.
Engine 29’s crew attended the 61st Annual Pumpkin Roll in Knights Ferry.
SATURDAY, NOV. 2
Battalion 2: Crews participated in the Saturday hands-on drill day.
Battalion 5: Modesto Engine 9 and Engine 29 conducted wildland training for the Explorers in Knights Ferry.
7:56 p.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Engine 28, and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident with injuries at Patterson Road and Langworth Road. Engine 27 arrived on scene of a solo vehicle accident with the driver outside of the vehicle. One patient was transported by ambulance with minor injuries and Engine 28 was cancelled.
FRIDAY, NOV. 1
MFD personnel attended the Celebration of Life for MFD Fire Captain Mark Gonzales (retired) in Modesto. Mark retired from the Modesto Fire Department in 2018 and served the community for 24 years.
Battalion 2: 6:27 p.m. – Engine 26 responded to Roselle Avenue and Patterson Road for a vehicle accident involving multiple cars. Three people were treated for minor injuries
Battalion 5: Crews performed station maintenance and daily apparatus checks.
Companies conducted company level training in their FMA’s.
Crews caught up on their training assignments in Vector Solutions.
Battalion 5 companies toured the Oakdale Municipal Airport identifying key locations and the facilities fuel storage as well as the Class B foam area. Crews trained on using the foam eductors on the engines.
THURSDAY, OCT. 31
Battalion 2: 3:40 p.m. – Engine 23, Water Rescue 24, Water Rescue 29, Engine 4456, and BC2 responded to a water rescue in La Grange on the Tuolumne River. Two fishermen had overturned their craft and were holding onto a tree. Boat 24 completed the rescue and returned the fishermen to shore safely. They were evaluated and released.
Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Crews completed daily station maintenance.
Companies trained on TDA driving.
Engine 29 and Battalion 5 participated in the Valley Home Halloween Parade.
Engine 28 and Battalion 5 participated in the City of Oakdale Halloween Walk.
WEDNESDAY, OCT. 30
A badge pinning was held at Fire Admin for newly promoted Captains. We would like to congratulate Captain Brian Rotan, Captain Jake Clinite, and Captain Val Villalobos.
Battalion 2: Engine 26 participated in a public education event at the Riverbank Language Academy in Riverbank.
Battalion 5: Battalion 5 crews conducted daily apparatus checks and station maintenance at their stations.
2:55 p.m. – Engine 28 was called out to Timberwood Drive to rescue a cat that had been stuck up in a tree for several days. The cat was safely brought down.
TUESDAY, OCT. 29
Companies rotated through Station 22 for fourth quarter EMS training.
Battalion 2: Crews completed daily equipment checks and online training assignments.
Engine 26 participated in a public education event at Mesa Verde Elementary School.
Battalion 5: 4:23 p.m. – Engine 27, E28 and BC5 were dispatched to a report of a two-vehicle accident with a car into a ditch, with a fire and power lines down on Bentley Road in a rural area of Oakdale. Crews arrived on scene and found two cars involved with live power lines and a pole down in the road. The live wires started a small vegetation fire as well. Both parties were able to exit their vehicles and luckily only had minor injuries. One patient was transported to a local hospital.
