The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Dec. 3 through Monday, Dec. 9. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, DEC. 9
Battalion 2: 10:12 a.m. – Engines 22 and 23 responded to a vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 132 and Geer Road. Two vehicles were involved, and one person complained of minor injuries. CHP is investigating the accident.
Battalion 5: Engine 29 conducted training that focused on fire engine pump operations.
1:48 p.m. – Engines 26, 27, and 29 responded to a vehicle accident at the intersection of Orange Blossom and Wamble Road. E29 was the first to arrive and found two vehicles involved with three injuries: two minor and one immediate. Cal Star 12 transported the immediate patient to a local hospital, and OVA transported the two minor injuries to area hospitals, with the medic from E29 retaining care in one of the ambulances. CHP is investigating the accident.
SUNDAY, DEC. 8
Battalion 2: Crews completed their annual task book signoffs.
EMS inventory was completed.
Battalion 5: Crews completed apparatus checks and station maintenance.
E27 and BC5 reviewed Target Hazards and High-Rise Operations assignments/job functions.
SATURDAY, DEC. 7
Companies participated in battalion drills at the Regional Fire Training Center.
Battalion 5: Crews completed end of the year fire management area work.
Engine 28 and Battalion 5 participated in the Oakdale Christmas Parade.
7:21 p.m. – Engine 28, Engine 27 and Battalion 5 responded to reports of a vegetation fire at Oakdale Waterford Highway and Claribel Road. Crews located a large burn pile.
9:21 p.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28, and Battalion 5 responded to a vehicle accident on Highway 108 and Langworth. CHP is investigating.
FRIDAY, DEC. 6
Crews conducted a walk-thru of the Gallo production facility.
C-shift completed the shift bid for 2025-2027.
Battalion 2: Crews completed Type 3 and 6 vehicle maintenance.
Crews participated in the Gallo walk-thru tour.
Battalion 5: BC5 oversaw the C Shift station bids as members picked their station assignments for the next two years.
THURSDAY, DEC. 5
The MST captain’s academy continued at the RFTC.
The Modesto Fire Department briefing was held by Chief Wise and the Deputy Chiefs, updating personnel on current and future projects and events.
Companies across all Battalions attended training at the Gallo Plant. Facility managers gave crews a tour of the plant focusing on target hazards, machine operations, and emergency response protocols.
Battalion 2: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Crews completed annual training on Vector Solutions.
4:57 p.m. – Engine 24 was dispatched to assist with a cat stuck in a tree for approximately nine hours on Bentley Street in Waterford. The crew successfully removed the cat from the tree and returned it to the owner.
Battalion 5: Engine 28’s crew provided great customer service by stopping by a residence on Magnolia Street in Oakdale and replacing several smoke detector batteries for the homeowners.
Battalion 5 oversaw the B shift station bid where employees chose their station assignments for the next two years.
Crews continued working on completing their year-end company training.
WEDNESDAY, DEC. 4
The MST captain’s academy continues at the RFTC. Instruction focused on MDC operations and report writing.
Battalion 2: Battalion 2 provided instruction for the captains academy.
Battalion 5: Engine 28 conducted hose drills to work on their firefighting skills.
12:26 p.m. – Grass 26, G27, WT21 and BC5 were dispatched to a vegetation fire on Hwy 108 and Claus Road. Units arrived to find a large homeless camp on fire down on the river bottom near the river. Crews made access and extinguished the fire. Extensive mop up kept crews busy until approximately 2 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 5.
TUESDAY, DEC. 3
Several Companies conducted an area familiarization and plant walk-thru at Gallo.
Battalion 2: 3:52 p.m. – Engine 24 responded to the area of La Gallina and D Street in Waterford for a juvenile who had fallen off his scooter and sustained a broken arm. E24 provided ALS care and assisted with transport to a local trauma center.
Battalion 5: 9:20 a.m. – Modesto BC5 assisted with conducting interviews at OHS in the Fire Science ROP Class. Students are learning how to conduct job interviews with fire service members as the panel.
10:54 a.m. – Modesto Engine 28, Stanislaus Engine 26, and BC5 responded to a medical aid in the 14000 block of 26-Mile Road for a fall victim suffering a fall over 10 feet. Oak Valley Ambulance and Engine 28 arrived on scene with one immediate patient. Engine 28 set up a landing zone for the air ambulance and cancelled Engine 26.
