Oakdale-Riverbank Fire Calls 12-25-24

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Dec. 17 through Sunday, Dec. 22. Due to earlier deadlines for the Christmas holiday, the Monday, Dec. 23 call log was not available at press time. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

SUNDAY, DEC. 22

Battalion 2: Crews completed daily equipment and apparatus checks.

Crews conducted company training.

Battalion 5: 1;25 a.m. – Grass 26, G27, B23, WT27, WT23 and BC5 responded to a report of a vegetation fire on Highway 108 down near the river off Adams Gravel Plant Road. Battalion 5 arrived on scene and found a 50 yard by 50 feet area of 30-foot-tall bamboo on fire near the river bottom. Crews made access and had to cut through a chain link fence in several places to extinguish the blaze. Crews remained on scene for two hours mopping up the scene.

 

SATURDAY, DEC. 21

Battalion 2: 7:50 a.m. – Engines 24 and 29 responded to a solo vehicle accident near Crabtree and Warnerville roads. E29 was the first to arrive and located the solo patient who had self-extricated from his vehicle, which was in a ditch approximately 50 yards downhill off the road. He was taken by Oak Valley Ambulance to a local trauma center.

Battalion 5: 11:51 a.m. – Engine 28, Engine 29, and Quint 22 were dispatched to a vehicle accident with injuries at Lon Dale Road (Highway 120) at Pioneer Avenue. Engine 28 arrived on scene with two vehicles off the roadway that had hit head on. Engine 28 and Engine 29 assisted with patient care on two immediate patients and one delayed patient. Due to the weather the air ambulance that was requested could not fly so the patients were transported by ground ambulance to local hospitals.

 

FRIDAY, DEC. 20

Battalion 2: Crews conducted company training.

A Homatro service technician completed annual maintenance of all the Department hydraulic rescue equipment.

Battalion 5: 5:16 p.m. – Engine 29, 28, and BC5 responded for a vehicle accident between Lover’s Leap and Lancaster. Crews arriving on scene found two vehicles that had clipped each other and ended up about 150 yards apart. Engine 28 provided care to the farthest west vehicle, and E29 the farthest east. All patients were released against medical advice. Fire provided traffic control until CHP arrived due to the dense fog and blind turns on the highway.

 

THURSDAY, DEC. 19

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 18

Battalion 2: Type 6 sign offs were completed using Grass 26 for Fire Engineer Baker.

Battalion 5: Battalion 5 crews supported Assistant Chief Tim Tietjen with his retirement flag ceremony at Fire Station 28. The past two-and-a-half years Chief Tietjen managed the Service Contracts with Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District, Oakdale City, and Oakdale Rural Fire Protection District. MST personnel also attended the flag ceremony at Fire Station 28 and retirement at MFD Admin. Assistant Chief Tietjen served the Oakdale Fire Department for 10 years and Modesto Fire Department for 21 years and was wished the best in retirement.

 

TUESDAY, DEC. 17

Members of the training division worked on props at the RFTC.

The Fire Chief and Deputy Chiefs briefed the MST personnel on activities over the past month and special projects.

Battalion 2: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.

5:32 p.m. – Engine 26 responded to a vehicle accident at Atchison and First streets in Riverbank. Upon arrival, they found a three-vehicle accident. The occupants were uninjured. Engine 26 secured the batteries and cleared debris from the roadway.

Battalion 5: Crews completed apparatus and equipment maintenance as well as station maintenance.

Crews attended the MST Monthly Briefing on Microsoft Teams.
