The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, April 18 through Monday, April 24. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, APRIL 24
Battalion 5: Crews conducted Monday checks on apparatus.
Water Rescue Boat training was held on the Stanislaus River in Oakdale with WR18, WR24, WR28, and WR29.
SUNDAY, APRIL 23
Battalion 5: 12:21 a.m. – Engine 28, Engine 27, Quint 22, BC5 responded for a vehicle accident with an occupied car into a canal at the corner of Victory and Highway 120 in the Oakdale Fire Protection District. Crews arrived with Escalon Fire on scene. After a face to face with their Incident Command we went Unified Command with Escalon Ambulance treating one of the drivers. Crews made attempts to access the vehicle but due to the depth and velocity of the water in the canal it determined unsafe for responders make access. A large tow truck was requested along with a dive team from San Joaquin County Fire. Lathrop-Manteca Fire’s dive team arrived approximately an hour into the incident. They evaluated the incident and made access to the vehicle. The driver was quickly removed from the water and brought to shore. Paramedics determined the patient deceased on scene. All San Joaquin County Fire units cleared the scene with the incident determined to be in Stanislaus County. Quint 22 assisted the tow truck company with recovery of the vehicle. Engine 29 provided station coverage for Fire Station 28 during the incident.
SATURDAY, APRIL 22
Battalion 5: Crews responded to the Stanislaus River throughout the day for rafters that were not able to safely make it down the river. A total of four people and one kayak were brought to safety in multiple incidents.
FRIDAY, APRIL 21
Battalion 2: E2, E9, E24, E26 and Q22 met at Pick n Pull and performed extrication training.
8:58 a.m. – E26 responded to a two-vehicle collision on Atchison and Second streets. On arrival one driver was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and transported by OVA.
2:02 p.m. – E21 responded to the 3300 blk of Santa Fe in Riverbank for an electrical wire arcing. E21 stood by while PG&E arrived and cut power to the area. Power was restored a few hours later.
Battalion 5: 4:47 a.m. – E28, E27, Truck 5 and Battalion 5 were dispatched to the 400 block of East H St., Oakdale, for a gas leak inside a residence. Crews arrived, E28 arrived, secured the gas and waited for PG&E. All others were canceled.
3:13 p.m. – Engine 28, Engine 27, Truck 5 and BC5 were dispatched to a potential structure fire in the 1200 block of Caballero Street in the City of Oakdale for a possible gas leak. Engine 28 arrived, and crews located a small gasoline spill in the garage that was quickly mitigated.
3:14 p.m. – E21, E9 and BC2 responded to a three-vehicle collision on Claus near Plainview. On arrival three vehicles were found, four people involved, one delayed patient transported.
3:14 p.m. – E7 came across a vehicle fire while responding to the vehicle accident in the same area of Claus and Plainview. The occupants escaped with some first- and second-degree burns. One occupant was transported to a local medical facility and the other refused treatment.
THURSDAY, APRIL 20
Battalion 2: 8:32 a.m. – E26 responded to a medical aid call in the 6700 block of Central in Riverbank. After 25 minutes of high-performance CPR, the patient was determined to be deceased.
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 19
Battalion 2: Crews conducted boat operator training on the Tuolumne River.
Battalion 5: 8:56 a.m. – Modesto Engine 27 and BC5 were dispatched to an EMS/CPR call in the 200 block of S. Lee Avenue. The patient was transported to a local hospital.
9:36 a.m. – Modesto Engine 28, Engine 15, Stanislaus Engine 24, and BC5 were dispatched to a vehicle accident with pin-in at Oakdale Waterford Highway and Claribel Road. Engine 24 arrived on scene with a pickup truck vs. a semi-truck with the pickup rolled over into an almond orchard. Engine 24 confirmed that all occupants of the vehicles were out; Engine 24 and Engine 28 assisted with patient care for two patients that were an immediate and a delayed. Both patients were transported by ground ambulance to local hospitals.
