The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, May 2 through Monday, May 8. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, MAY 8
Modesto crews performed weekly equipment checks on primary apparatus and station yard maintenance.
Crews rotated through fire alarm systems training at Station 22 provided by the Community Risk Reduction Division. Firefighters learned about the different types of fire alarm systems, how to operate the control panels and how the Division can assist with false alarms.
SUNDAY, MAY 7
Battalion 5: Crews conducted apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Water Rescue 24 and Water Rescue 29 conducted boat operator training on the Stanislaus River.
The new extrication equipment purchased by Oakdale Fire Protection District was delivered to Fire Station 29.
SATURDAY, MAY 6
Crews worked on Saturday station clean up.
Battalion 5: Crews conducted apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Water Rescue’s 24, 26, and 29 conducted water rescue boat training on the Tuolumne River in La Grange.
FRIDAY, MAY 5
Battalion 2: Crews completed company level training.
THURSDAY, MAY 4
Battalion 5: Engine 28 assisted with the Oakdale High School Fire Science Class.
2:24 p.m. – Brush 28, Engine/WT27 and Battalion 5 responded for the report of a vegetation fire along the river at Oakdale Recreation area. Crews arrived to find a large log on fire.
WEDNESDAY, MAY 3
Companies spent the morning performing equipment checks on auxiliary apparatus.
MST crews rotated through Station 22 for quarterly EMS training. This training focused on trauma assessment, spinal immobilization, medication administration and traction splinting.
Battalion 2: Apparatus and station maintenance duties were conducted by all companies.
8:39 a.m. – Engine 26 was dispatched to the report of a subject having difficulty breathing in the 3900 block of Patterson Road.
Battalion 5: Crews went out to Station 30 for station maintenance and equipment checks.
Battalion 5 assessed the progress of the fuel mitigation project taking place in the community of Knights Ferry.
TUESDAY, MAY 2
MST crews rotated through Station 22 for quarterly EMS training. This training focused on trauma assessment, spinal immobilization, medication administration and traction splinting.
Congratulations to Jack Alvord, David Bromley, Justin Morris and Vince Milbeck (not present) for achieving the rank of Fire Captain and Angel Casillas for his position as Fire Inspector. A small badge pinning ceremony was conducted at Fire Admin for family to celebrate their achievements.
