Carol Vear Nickels, 83, of Riverbank died Saturday, Aug. 23 at Memorial Hospital.
He was a native of Wisconsin, board May 28, 1925 and had lived in Riverbank for 64 years.
Mr. Nickels was Chief of the Volunteer Fire Department in Riverbank for many years.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946.
He was a member of St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Ursula Nickels of Riverbank; daughter, Fay Giddens of Idaho; stepchildren, Eddie Vargas of Empire, Rudy Vargas of California, Cindy Vargas of Turlock; two grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; two great grandchildren.
A Rosary was held Tuesday, Sept. 2 at St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3 at St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church with burial to follow.
