Collin Michael Yerzy was surrounded by family and friends as he passed from this Earth to Heaven on January 26, 2023. He had fought a long hard battle with cancer for the last 15 months.
Collin was born July 15, 1984, in Boise, Idaho, to Fredrich Allen and Ann Burtner Yerzy. The family moved to Oakdale, California, in 1989, where he attended Oakdale schools, graduating from Oakdale High in 2002. While in high school, he was involved in Stanislaus Occupational Olympics, Academic Decathlon, Service Club and tennis. He continued his education at Modesto Junior College, CalPoly and graduated with a civil engineering degree from University of the Pacific, Stockton, in December 2007. While at MJC, he met the love of his life, Margaret Flagg. They were married July 2007 and made their home in Modesto. They brought two sons into their lives in 2013 and 2016.
Collin worked as an engineer for eight years for the City of Modesto Public Works and then transferred to Stanislaus County Public Works as a Deputy Director. He loved his work and often helped friends and co-workers with projects. He loved to fish and camp and work on his cars.
Collin is survived by his wife, Margaret; his two sons, Zachary and Christian; his parents, Fred and Ann Yerzy of Oakdale; and his brother, Scott (Melinda) of Oakdale. He is also survived by his in-laws, as well as his nieces and nephews, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be missed by his many friends and co-workers.
We wish to thank all of his friends and co-workers who have helped Collin and his family over the last year. We also thank all of his doctors and team at UCSF who fought this dreadful disease with him.
A Celebration of Life for Collin will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Living Hope Christian Fellowship, Highway 120 and River Road, Oakdale, CA. Reception to follow.
