Herbert Axel Kangas, passed away on March 20, 2025, at his home in Tuolumne with long time loving partner Joy Hahn by his side. Herb was born on June 28, 1932 in Alexandria, MN. He later lived in Burbank, CA, where he met and married Patricia Ruth Kangas.
He is preceded in death by Patricia (March 27, 2009); also preceded in death by his daughter Susan Joyce Langpaap. Herb is survived by his daughters, Paula Hinshaw and Dawna Hauselmann (Rick), and son-in-law Terry Langpaap (Pattie). Grandson, Brian Gleeson (Cecily). He is also survived by sister Doris Raisanen, of Annandale, MN. Preceded in death by sister Marjorie Oikle, brothers Burton Peterson and Stephen Peterson.
After high school Herb joined the US Air Force serving in the Security Service Branch stationed in Germany. He also pursued his Degree in Mechanical Engineering which eventually brought him to Oakdale, where he was head of the Engineering Department at Hershey Foods. He retired after a 20-year career, and was lovingly known as the “Best Boss”. He enjoyed playing sports and later watching most. He was dedicated to the Lutheran Church, serving as Deacon, Treasurer and the PTA of the Lutheran School his children attended. In Oakdale he tended his hobby farm of almonds. Herb was always busy helping others.
Funeral services are being handled by Oakdale-Riverbank Memorial Chapels.
Visitation: Friday April 4, 2025 at 9 a.m. Ceremony is at 11 a.m. on April 4, 2025.
Services will conclude at the Chapel, Private Interment.
