O’Brien leading in race for Mayor’s post
election

It appears as though incumbent longtime Riverbank Mayor Richard D. O’Brien will return to that role; he had 2,419 votes according to the unofficial tally released by the Stanislaus County Registrar of Voters following the close of the polls on Nov. 5.

O’Brien had 52 percent of the vote, with challenger, council member Rachel Hernandez, with 2,280 votes and Solomon Kumar in a distant third place, with 121 votes.

Gary Vernon had a commanding 64 to 36 percent lead in the race for a seat on the Riverbank Unified School District Board, with 417 votes compared to the 208 cast for Velasco in Area 1.

The District 2 City Council race featured only Cindy Fosi so she will return to that seat; leading in the District 4 race was Stacy Call, polling 587 votes and holding the lead over incumbent Darlene Barber-Martinez, who had 505 votes. Roxana Garcia had polled 337 votes.

Riverbank’s school bond measure proposal, Measure E, seemed assured of passage with a 65 percent approval rating, receiving 1,823 ‘yes’ votes to 967 ‘no’ votes.
