Good news for residents interested in continuing to beat the late summer and early fall heat — hours have been extended at the Riverbank Community Pool.

Normally, the pool is closed when school starts in early August, but the Riverbank Parks and Recreation Department has announced it will continue operating the pool on select days through the month of September.

It listed recreation swimming hours through Sept. 28.

The pool will be open from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. on upcoming Saturdays, Aug. 24 and 31; continuing on Sept. 7, 14, 21, and 28.

Officials also noted that the pool also is available for rental on Sundays, Aug. 25, and Sept. 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29.

Although it’s possible the recent spate of triple-digit temperatures may be behind us, typical temps in August and September can still hover around the mid-80s and often still reach into the 90s, occasionally near 100 degrees.

With July being a record-setting month for heat, officials decided to keep the pool open past the traditional summer schedule.
