Forecasters with the National Weather Service in Sacramento are warning of a major heat wave that will impact the region.

An excessive heat warning is in effect from 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 6.

Dangerously hot conditions with temperatures up to 110 degrees are expected. Limited overnight relief with low temperatures in the mid-60s to low-70s. The temperatures will bring widespread major heat risk, with areas of extreme heat risk.

Impacted areas include the Carquinez Strait and Delta, Sacramento Valley, northern San Joaquin Valley and surrounding foothills.

Impacts can include heat related illnesses, which increase significantly during extreme heat events, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.

The heat will likely impact outdoor holiday activities. Hottest temperatures are expected to be Tuesday and Wednesday but continue into the weekend. Area waterways will continue to run cold and fast, creating dangerous conditions for those seeking relief in rivers and lakes.

As a reminder, residents should drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
