The Music Department of Riverbank High School presented its Spring Concert performance on Thursday, March 20 in the Bruin Gym on campus.
Led by Maestro Joey Aguilar, the audience heard music from the Beginner Band, the 2025 Indoor Percussion unit, the Jazz Band and the Concert Band.
Starting off, the 21-member Beginner Band performed three pieces.
First was “Call to Duty,” a march by Gene Milford, then “Dark Adventure” by Ralph Ford. They concluded with “Comet Ride” by Brian Balmages.
The Indoor Percussion unit performed next, just the single piece they are using this year in their competition shows, “The Graveyard Blues,” by Yurika Kimura.
The unit is comprised of two marimbas, a xylophone, and a vibraphone. They also have the bass drum, vibraslap, snare drum with ride cymbal, and wood blocks, with eight musicians playing.
Next up was the Jazz Band, performing two pieces, “Gonna Fly Now,” the theme from the movie “Rocky,” arranged by Victor Lopez, and “Whirly Bird,” arranged by Peter Blair. The second piece featured solos by Francisco Campos on tenor saxophone, and Audrey Richey, on alto saxophone.
Finishing out the program was the 34-member Concert Band, performing four pieces.
“Diversion for Band,” by Clare Grundman, “On a Hymnsong of Philip Bliss,” by David R. Holsinger, “Hypnotic Fireflies,” by Brian Balmages, and “Choose Joy,” by Randall D. Standridge.
The next concert at the school is scheduled for May 22, to be held in the Ray Fauria Memorial Gymnasium. It will be part of the Night of the Arts Showcase, which includes art, music, theatre and multi-media art shown by students. The event will start at 5:30 p.m., with the concert beginning at 6 p.m.
