A Modesto man died Sunday, Nov. 10 in a two-vehicle collision along Highway 108, just west of Snedigar Road.
The crash, between Oakdale and Riverbank, occurred at about 6:15 p.m. Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officials said the CHP received a call regarding the collision and emergency personnel arriving on scene located two vehicles with major damage.
The driver of a Ford van, identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as Matthew Curtis McPherson, 47, of Modesto, was pronounced deceased at the scene. There were four additional injuries ranging from major to minor as a result of the collision, noted the CHP report.
The preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the 2012 Ford van was traveling westbound on State Route 108, approaching Snedigar Road, while a 2024 GMC pickup driven by a 32-year-old Oakdale woman was traveling eastbound. For unknown reasons at this time, the driver of the Ford crossed over the double yellow line, directly into the path of the GMC. The vehicles collided head-on. The pick-up truck driver was transported to Memorial Medical Center with major injuries. Three additional passengers in the GMC were transported to local area hospitals with major to moderate injuries.
The CHP report indicated that all involved parties were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision. It is unknown if drugs and/or alcohol contributed to the crash. The highway was temporarily closed to investigate; motorists were detoured through the area with minimal delay.
