Third Street Parking Lot Earns Council Approval

These two lots in downtown Riverbank will be turned in to a 45-space parking lot this year. The City Council authorized the budget to continue the work necessary to turn these two lots, formerly belonging to a residence that had been converted to use as a church, at its June 13 meeting. The Riverbank City Council has moved forward with funding the construction of a new parking lot in the downtown area, the action taken at the June 13 council meeting.

The project consists of building the new lot at 6813 and 6825 Third Street, near the intersection with Atchison/Highway 108. It’s directly across Third Street from the former Del Rio complex, and next to the former Serve-All Market and Liquor Store.

The site had been the location of a former home that had been converted to use as a church, which was damaged in the August 2014 fire that affected both the market and the other two storefronts attached to it. The church building backed up to the market.

The new lot is expected to provide 45 new parking spaces for the downtown area, complete with solar lighting. This new parking is just a block north of Riverbank Police Services as well as City Hall North.

The council was told that demolition has already been completed on the site, with the removal of the old church building, an ADA ramp, cyclone fencing, and all concrete, as well as trees on the two lots.

In addition to the work already accomplished, the project includes, but is not limited to furnishing all labor, materials, equipment, transportation and incidentals necessary for site grading, asphalt paving, storm drain, concrete curb, gutter, sidewalk, light fixtures, traffic control and all other work.

Including additions from the American Rescue Plan Act funds, the total budget for the project stands at $766,053.41.
