Bruin sports wind down for winter break

As the semester wound down on the Riverbank High campus this past week, several teams playing preseason/non-league sports wrapped up as well. School’s out for three weeks for the holiday break, with just a few games coming up.

 

Lady Bruin Soccer

Girls soccer fell to the El Capitan High School Lady Gauchos, from Merced, 9-0, on Tuesday, Dec. 17. After a long layoff during the holiday break, they are next scheduled to play a non-league match on Friday, Dec. 27, hosting Rio Linda’s Lady Knights.

 

Bruin Soccer

Riverbank boys fought to a 1-1 tie in a preseason match at Modesto High on Friday, Dec. 20. They’re scheduled to travel to Sacramento to take on the Foothill High School Mustangs on Friday, Dec. 27.

 

Bruin Basketball

The varsity basketball team lost a close preseason game, 49-44, to the visiting Waterford Wildcats on Wednesday, Dec. 18, then hosted a bigger, taller Fred C. Beyer team from Modesto on Friday, Dec. 20. In that contest, the varsity boys lost by an 85-42 final. They’ll be hosting Ripon High School in a 3:30 p.m. game on Thursday, Dec. 26.

 

Lady Bruin Basketball

Girls varsity basketball had a successful week, with a victory at home over Mountain House, 66-57, on Tuesday, Dec. 17. They then played in the Mesa Verde Challenge, winning on Thursday, Dec. 19, over Sacramento Waldorf, 54-20. On Saturday, they beat Esparto High School, 88-9, their highest score of the season so far, and largest margin of victory.

They’ll be hosting the Lady Warriors of Orestimba High School on Thursday, Dec. 26, with a 4:30 p.m. start for the varsity game.
