It was a tough week for boys basketball, with the first game a heartbreaking loss on the home court last Tuesday, then a bigger deficit on Friday on the road. Meanwhile, the varsity girls are making a strong run during their first season in the Mother Lode League.
Bruin Basketball
Riverbank hosted Summerville from Tuolumne County on Tuesday, Jan. 21 and started out ahead at the end of the first quarter, 15-10, but it was downhill from there.
Though the Bruins stayed close the rest of the game, as the last seconds ticked down, they were able to move ahead with a free throw. With one-tenth of a second remaining on the clock, Summerville took advantage of an awarded technical and cashed in on the free throws, winning 70-69.
On Friday, Jan. 24, Riverbank traveled to Modesto to take on Big Valley Christian High School, falling there, 75-58. Both were Mother Lode League games.
This week, they were scheduled to play at Bret Harte on Tuesday, then host Calaveras for Homecoming on Friday, Jan. 31.
Lady Bruin Basketball
The girls basketball program continued its winning ways, with a 55-18 romp at Summerville last Tuesday, and an 82-11 victory over Big Valley on Friday. Taylor Macias poured in 23 points against Big Valley while Leilani Olanolan added 21. Avah Luu, with 11 points, and Alexis Felix, with 10, rounded out the double-digit scorers for Riverbank. In the game against Summerville, Olanolan had 22 points, Macias 17 and Luu chipped in with 10. The girls are staking a claim on the Mother Lode League title, as they are so far undefeated in MLL action.
Riverbank was to host Bret Harte on Tuesday, then will play host to Calaveras for a Homecoming game on Friday with a tip off time of 6 p.m., prior to the varsity boys game.
Bruin Soccer
The Bruin varsity boys lost a close one, 4-3, at Linden on Tuesday, Jan. 21, then won, 4-0 over Big Valley Christian at home on Thursday, Jan. 23. On Friday, they took a 4-2 non-league win at Ripon.
They were to play at Calaveras in a league contest Tuesday, then host Bret Harte on Thursday, Jan. 30.
Lady Bruin Soccer
The tough season continues on the pitch for Riverbank. The varsity girls lost by just a 1-0 final at Linden on Jan. 21, then fell 5-1 to Big Valley at home on Thursday, Jan. 23.
They were to host Calaveras on Jan. 28 and travel to Angels Camp to take on the Lady Bullfrogs from Bret Harte High School on Thursday, Jan. 30.
RHS Wrestling
Riverbank grapplers are to travel to Summerville for a Mother Lode League meet on Wednesday, Jan. 29.
