The Riverbank Bruins were outmatched by the juggernaut that are the Escalon Cougars, suffering a 55-6 loss on Friday in in the Trans-Valley League contest in front of a cheering Escalon home crowd.

The Bruins won the coin toss and elected to kickoff for the first half, and things went quite a bit downhill for them from there.

The Cougars were able to pull off a long score on the first play of their series, then the defense contained Riverbank to just 3-and-out in their possession.

The next round on Escalon offense, the home team pulled off a long run, resulting in another TD, and Riverbank just couldn't seem to get their offense on track. The first quarter ended 34-0, Cougars.

It only got worse for the Bruins in the second quarter and they went into the half with a 41-0 deficit.

The third quarter showed a glimmer of hope for the Bruins. It started when quarterback Lawrence Diaz ran the ball for the Bruins’ longest gain of the night, and led to the team’s sole touchdown. The extra point kick was missed and Riverbank would not enter the endzone again. Escalon also scored, leaving the period ending, 48-6.

The game final was 55-6, with the Cougars scoring in each of the four quarters.
