Busy sports slate for Riverbank winter teams

School classes have resumed after the long holiday break and teams are continuing to see action in their winter sports. This past week, Mother Lode League play was featured for the various Bruin squads, moving in to that league this school year, out of the Trans-Valley League.

 

Bruin Soccer

The varsity Bruin soccer team started their Mother Lode League play on Tuesday last week, Jan. 7, traveling to Big Valley Christian High School in Modesto. They came away from that contest with their biggest win of the season so far, 12-0. On Thursday, they hosted the Red Hawks of Calaveras High School from San Andreas, fighting to a 0-0 tie.

This week, they were to travel to Angels Camp to take on the Bret Harte Bullfrogs on Jan. 14. Thursday, Jan. 16 the Bruins are scheduled to host Summerville from Tuolumne County.

 

Lady Bruin Soccer

Riverbank played two matches on the road last week. On Tuesday, they traveled to Big Valley, falling there by a 6-0 final. Then on Thursday, they lost 3-1, to the Lady Red Hawks of Calaveras High School in San Andreas.

This week, the girls were to host Bret Harte High School from Angels Camp on Jan. 14. They’ll play at Summerville in Tuolumne County, east of Sonora, on Thursday, Jan. 16.

 

Bruin Wrestling

Both boys and girls compete at this level, and Riverbank hosted its first Mother Lode League match of the season on Wednesday, Jan. 8. They hosted Big Valley Christian, falling 47-18.

They're scheduled to host Calaveras in a league match, Wednesday, Jan. 15.

 

Lady Bruin Basketball

Girls basketballers continued their winning ways on the road last, with a non-league win at Gregori High School in Modesto on Tuesday, Jan. 7, over the Lady Jaguars, 59-33. On Friday, Riverbank traveled to San Andreas for Mother Lode League action and defeated the host Calaveras Lady Red Hawks, 70-48, for their first league win of the season.

This week, Riverbank girls JV will host Linden on Thursday, with the varsity game scheduled here for Friday, Jan. 17.

 

Bruin Basketball

Boys roundball traveled to Stockton on Tuesday last week for their last preseason game, losing to McNair High School, 71-41. Then, on Friday, Jan. 10 they faced off in San Andreas with the Calaveras Red Hawks, falling 66-33, starting Mother Lode League play.

This week, JV hosts Linden, on Thursday, while varsity hosts them on Friday, both contests coming after the girls’ games.

 

Cross Country Kudos

Riverbank High cross country runner Giselle Fernandez was recently named to the California Division IV First Team All-State squad and the Second Team All Nor-Cal. The honors were based on her fourth-place finish at the state D4 division meet. She was the 55th best female finisher overall and the 10th place Nor-Cal finisher.
