The Bait Barn held its last tournament of the season at Don Pedro on Saturday night, June 28.
Twelve enthusiastic teams arrived and were told everyone would win either cash or tackle packs at the awards. While checking in all enjoyed cold drinks and shared stories about this past season and the strategy for the night. It was a shorts and T-shirt night with some warm wind as all teams launched their boats and headed for the buoy line and blast-off. With only 12 boats all were off quickly searching for a good five fish limit in the six-hour format. One morning weigh-in at the marina dock and one boat came in early, they wanted to wait for a few others to weigh in before they brought their big limit that might bring them their very first win. The duo was lucky enough to have the night off, they're one of the firefighting teams from Turlock who love to fish when off duty. All the boats made it in on time and the scoring went fast.
That early boat finally brought up their fish and, sure enough, it was a winner. Mark Gomez caught big fish of the tournament, a 7.66 bucket mouth anchoring their 17.71 five fish limit. With the help of Mark's partner, Mike Smithcamp, they said all fish were caught off Buzzard point area and before it was dark using Texas rigged worms.
