Entering into the month of October this week, the fall sports schedule for Riverbank High School is about two-thirds over. Teams continue to play league opponents with some of the Bruins returning to their home fields for action.
Football
Back on home turf, the Bruin varsity football team hosted Ripon High on Friday, Sept. 30, but faced a shutout at the hands of the visiting Indians.
Things looked good early in the contest, but Riverbank just couldn’t reach the end zone, and by the end of the first quarter, the Bruins were down, 13-0.
Progress continued downhill from there, with Riverbank just unable to score, ending up on the wrong side of the 47-0 final score.
This week, the Bruins host the Huskies of Hughson.
Lady Bruin Volleyball
Varsity girls volleyball was on the road again last week, with a canceled match on Monday and a loss Wednesday.
The first contest, which should have been on Sept. 26, was scheduled at Modesto Christian High School, but the Lady Crusaders haven’t fielded a team this year. On Sept. 28, Riverbank fell to the Lady Indians of Ripon High, on their court, 7-25, 11-25 and 13-25.
They were to play the Lady Huskies in Hughson on Monday, Oct. 3, and return home to host the Lady Cougars of Escalon in Wednesday, Oct. 5 action.
Lady Bruin Golf
The Riverbank linksters were to host two matches this week on the Escalon course.
Ripon Christian High was to visit for Valley Foothill League competition on Tuesday, and Hughson’s Lady Huskies are scheduled to play host Riverbank on Thursday, Oct. 6.
The Riverbank girls will continue to compete through the end of the month, but all the rest of the matches and tournaments will be on the road.
Co-Ed Cross Country
Riverbank runners are preparing for their next meet, the Roughrider Invitational, at Woodward Park in Fresno on Friday, Oct. 14. After that, the Trans-Valley League Championship is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 26 at River Bluff Regional Park in Ceres. The first two TVL meets have been hosted at the regional location in Ceres as well.
