Riverbank girls lost their varsity basketball game to Christian Brothers, 52-32, on Feb. 23, thereby suffering elimination in the first round of the Sac Joaquin Section playoffs.
The Bruins lost the first quarter, 14-6; won the second period, 10-9; but then lost the third quarter, 11-4; and the last, 18-12.
"They hit us with a full court press,"' said Riverbank coach Scott Erickson. "They got some easy buckets and we couldn't get a rhythm going."
Bothered by the pressure, the Bruins had problems in getting the ball down the court, and were not rebounding well either, he added.
Monica Cardenas hit 11 points, and Cindy Brock, 10, to lead Riverbank's scoring.
"They played well but we needed more than two hot scorers to win a playoff game," said Erickson.
This was a young team. Three starters will be coming back next year and the squad should be stronger still.
This is the second year in a row the Bruins have reached the playoffs under Erickson's leadership. The team ended the season tied for fourth place, with a record of 11-15 overall and 7-7 in league.
