The Riverbank High softball team was mere outs away from pulling themselves into the third place spot in Trans-Valley League softball action, yet could only watch as the Escalon Cougars tied things with a run in the bottom of the seventh to spark an extra-inning come-from-behind win over the Lady Bruins April 2 at Escalon High.

Riverbank did all that they could do in the contest, jumping out on Escalon with a run in the top of the fourth. The contest would remain scoreless until Escalon pushed across a run late in the seventh, laying the foundation for the Lady Bruins' toughest loss of the season.

"We hit the ball very well at the beginning of the game," Riverbank head coach Cassi Ross said. "I got overly aggressive on the bases one time and the girls made some mental errors on the base paths late in the game, but it was a good game.

"We actually had two outs with a runner on second and an error opened up the door for them to score."

The Lady Bruins were able to put the Escalon loss behind them in a hurry as they exploded on the Ripon Indians for eight runs in the top of the first inning. Riverbank would go on to add two more in the top of the second and cruise on to a 10-6 win in their second game of the week on Friday.

With Hughson resting atop the TVL standings with a 5-0 mark, Riverbank will have to turn things around immediately if they plan on catching Modesto Christian (4-1) or Escalon (3-2) in the near future.

"We are a young team," Ross said. "Yeah we have six seniors, but our pitcher's young and we have some young kids on the team and they're learning to have confidence in themselves.
