On Your Mark Events presents its 20th Annual Salmon Duathlon and 5k Run on Saturday, Nov. 5, 8:45 a.m., in the historic hamlet and surrounding area of Knights Ferry. The Salmon Duathlon (run, bike, run) and 5k Run (two separate competitions) will benefit the preservation of the salmon natural spawning habitat in the Stanislaus River.
This fall classic has become a very popular event for serious and weekend athletes throughout California. The Salmon Duathlon course distances consist, in the order of, a 5k Run (two loops), 30k Bike, and 2.5k Run (one loop). The Duathlon and the 5k run courses are on paved surfaces that run through rolling hills and features running along the Stanislaus River, through the Knights Ferry covered bridge (the longest covered bridge west of the Mississippi), and into and around Knights Ferry, offering views of the fall foliage in full season.
Participants will receive a commemorative T-shirt, snacks, refreshments (including beer), and entry into a raffle drawing. The traditional On Your Mark Events trophies will be awarded to the top overall male and female finishers. In addition, medals will be awarded to men and women, three deep (first, second, and third place), in 10-year age groups through 70+ in each race.
The entry fee to the duathlon is $55 per person, pre-registered and $65 race-day registration. For duathlon relay teams (one runner and one biker) are $100 pre-registered and $120 for day-of registration. The 5k Run fee is $35 pre-registered and $40 race-day registration.
Both the Salmon Duathlon and 5k Run will start at 8:45 a.m., with check-in and registration beginning at 7:30 a.m., in the parking lot of the Knights Ferry State Park, off Sonora Road in Knights Ferry.
