Mother Nature interfered with the beginning of the Riverbank High School spring sports schedule, canceling some pre-season games and relocating others.
Boys Volleyball Serves Up A Season
The big news of the week for Riverbank, and for the spring season, though, is the introduction of varsity boys volleyball to the Trans-Valley League schedule.
The Bruin boys have fielded a new team, with just one pre-season set of matches. Last Wednesday, RHS volleyballers rolled to a 3-0 match victory, scoring wins of 26-24, 25-19 and 25-17 against Big Valley Christian High School.
Riverbank travels to Big Valley for a rematch Wednesday, March 7. League play begins on Tuesday, March 27. Not all schools are playing boys volleyball yet, and only four other TVL teams are scheduled to compete this year. There are only four more home matches on the docket.
Lady Bruin Softball
Girls softball got off to a rough start last Monday, Feb. 26, with their first home game canceled by rain. The next day, they traveled to Modesto to play Grace Davis, losing 15-6. They won Friday’s away game at Big Valley Christian, 13-9, a game originally scheduled for the home field.
They were scheduled to host Denair on Monday, then for the rest of this week, they’re set to participate in the Rainbow (Fields) Tournament.
Bruin Baseball
Riverbank’s varsity boys baseball team traveled to Livingston last Monday, playing on a wet field, coming away with a hard-fought 15-14 loss to start their non-league season. Last Wednesday, Feb. 28, the Bruins lost to the Bears at Summerville High in Tuolumne, 10-3.
The Bruins were to host Johansen High School of Modesto on Monday, March 5, with Grace Davis from Modesto expected to visit on Friday, depending on the weather.
Co-Ed Tennis Bruins
The combined boys and girls tennis squad had been set to hold its two-day Doubles Tournament last Friday and Saturday, but it was postponed because of rain. Coach Bruce Edwards has said he hoped to hold it this Friday, but early weather forecasts were not promising. He said they were set to host a league match against Ripon Christian High School on Monday this week.
Track & Field
Bruin track and field team members participated in the Sierra Relay in Manteca last Saturday and are set to compete in the Stanislaus County Meet at Turlock High this Friday.
