Action on many fronts continues as school athletes wind their way through the fall campaign. Bruin teams were busy on the playing fields, home and away, for league competition this past week.
Cross Country
Riverbank’s varsity boys and girls won their first Mother Lode League race last week against Summerville, according to RHS Cross Country Coach Monte Wood.
“Armando Garcia won his three-mile race in a time of 15:37 and Matt Santana was second in 15:40,” Wood said. “Varsity girls won their first MLL race in a close battle with Summerville. Giselle Fernandez won her race. In another, Jessica Vigil played a key role staying back close to Gianna Cruz to encourage her.”
Wood noted that Cruz passed three Summerville girls in the last half of the race to secure the win.
“Overall, it was a complete team effort,” Wood said.
The Bruin runners were to compete in the second MLL meet Oct. 2 at Summerville.
Lady Bruin Flag Football
The varsity flag football girls were on the road for both league games last week, falling to Millenium on Tuesday, Sept. 24 by a 32-24 final, and then to Mariposa County’s Grizzlies, 34-19.
Flag football was to continue with a home game against Gustine this week.
Girls Volleyball
The Lady Bruins fell in two matches last week, first, on Tuesday, Sept. 24, losing to Linden 12-25, 23-25 and 13-25, for a 3-0 match loss. Similarly, they fell in three when hosting Big Valley from Modesto, 7-25, 10-25, and 8-25, in a Mother Lode League match.
The Lady Bruins are scheduled to host Bret Harte from Angels Camp on Oct. 3.
Bruin Football
Riverbank traveled to Summerville in Tuolumne County last Friday, falling 49-0 to the Bears.
This week, the varsity will be hosting Gustine’s Reds on Friday, celebrating their Homecoming. The JVs will host the Millennium Falcons from Tracy.

League play continues for the golf girls, as they were to host Calaveras on Oct. 1.
