Riverbank varsity basketball players experienced a unique scheduling situation last week, and girls basketball found a rare scoring outcome. There was also action on the soccer pitch and the wrestling mats, with the winter season in full swing.

RHS BASKETBALL

At the end of the week, there was a flurry of basketball scheduled.

On Thursday. Jan. 16, both boys and girls JV basketball teams hosted the Linden High School Lions teams, one right after the other. The JV girls battled to a 33-32 victory while the JV boys fell in an overtime contest, 55-48.

Linden is northeast of Stockton, in San Joaquin County, on Highway 26.

On Friday last week, both varsity basketball teams hosted Linden, with the Lady Bruins playing at 6 p.m., and the Bruin boys at 7:15 p.m.

The rare scoring outcome happened in the girls’ game.

As they usually do, Riverbank’s varsity team pulled ahead early in the first quarter, but by the end of that frame, they led, 19-0. It’s not very often that their opponents don’t score at all in the first period.

But more rare is the result of the game: the Lady Lions failed to score in the whole game, with the Riverbank victory ending up 64-0. Leilani Olanolan had 21 points in the win, Taylor Macias added 14.

This week, girls basketball was to travel to Summerville, in Tuolumne County, for Jan. 21 action. On Friday, they’ll go to Big Valley Christian High School in Modesto.

The varsity boys weren’t as lucky against Linden at home last week.

They ended up, in the second game of the day, falling 58-43, in Mother Lode League play.

This week, the Bruins were to host Summerville on Jan. 21, then travel to Big Valley on Friday.

BRUIN SOCCER

Boys soccer traveled to Angels Camp on Tuesday, Jan. 14, to play Bret Harte High School, winning 3-1, then falling to Summerville at home on Thursday, Jan. 16, 4-1.

This week, they were to play at Linden on Jan. 21, host Big Valley Christian on Thursday Jan. 23, and play at Ripon on Friday.

LADY BRUIN SOCCER

On Jan. 14, girls soccer fell Bret Harte, 3-1, then lost at home to Summerville, 6-0.

This week, the girls were to host Linden on Jan. 21, then host Big Valley Christian on Thursday, Jan. 23. The JV girls lost to Bret Harte by a 1-0 final.

BRUIN WRESTLING

Grapplers are to have a match at Linden on Wednesday evening, Jan. 22, then compete in a tournament at Gregori High School in Modesto on Saturday, Jan. 25.
