This past week, Riverbank High School athletes celebrated the New Year’s holiday, then finished up winter break with non-league preseason games on Friday, Jan. 3.

Both the Bruin boys and Lady Bruin soccer teams played home matches on a wet field, following midday rains. Basketball was also in action.

Lady Bruin Basketball

On the court, Riverbank had a home game on Friday, Jan. 3, falling 60-44 to the Lady Hawks of Liberty Ranch out of Galt. It was their first loss following five straight wins at home recently, and their lowest scoring game of the season.

RHS was to play at Gregori High School in Modesto on Tuesday, Jan. 7, then travel to Calaveras for JV action on Jan. 9, and varsity Mother Lode League play on Friday, Jan. 10.

Bruin Basketball

The Bruin hoopsters fell, 71-64, at Delhi, last Friday. They were scheduled to host McNair High School from Stockton in a preseason game on Jan. 7, with the JV boys playing Thursday and the varsity on Friday at Calaveras.

Bruin Soccer

Riverbank boys lost at Sierra, 2-0, on Monday, Dec. 30, then hosted River Islands High School from Lathrop, scoring a season high 9-1 victory over the Riptide, on Friday.

They were to play at Big Valley in Modesto on Jan. 7, to start off Mother Lode League competition, then continue with a home match hosting Calaveras on Thursday, Jan. 9.

The girls soccer schedule mirrors the boys’ schedule a little bit, at Big Valley Christian on Tuesday, but they are scheduled to play at Calaveras, not on the home pitch, on Thursday.
