Local sports action was sparse for Riverbank High School athletes this past week. All final preseason games were on the road as 2023 faded into the rear-view mirror.
Basketball, soccer and wrestling squads now will jump into the Trans-Valley League season.
Bruin Basketball
Riverbank High School’s varsity boys basketball team beat McNair High in Stockton on Friday, Dec. 29, finishing on top of the Eagles, 58-54.
Trans-Valley League play was to begin for the hoopsters this week, the varsity boys with a scheduled 7 p.m. tip off Wednesday, Jan. 3 at Hilmar. They will be home to host the Escalon Cougars on Friday, Jan. 5.
Lady Bruin Basketball
With an eye toward another strong campaign, Riverbank’s varsity girls basketball was to tip off its TVL season with a ‘home game against Hilmar on Tuesday, Jan. 2. They will also be at home for their second TVL contest, hosting the Escalon Lady Cougars at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 4.
Bruin Soccer
Last week, the varsity soccer boys beat Johansen High School in Modesto, winning 3-1 over the host Vikings, on Thursday, Dec. 28. They were to play at Laguna Creek on Jan. 3 at 6:30 p.m. and start league play on Friday, Jan. 5 at 3:30 p.m.; they will travel to play at Escalon against the host Cougars.
Lady Bruin Soccer
At the Ripon Christian Tournament during the holiday break, Riverbank was 0-for-3, falling to get a win and shut out in all three contests. They lost to the host Lady Knights, 3-0, on Wednesday, Dec. 27, and to Central Valley Christian’s Lady Cavaliers from Visalia, 3-0. On Thursday, Dec. 28, they lost to Oakdale’s Lady Mustangs, 2-0.
They soccer girls will be starting their league season on Friday, Jan. 5, as they host Escalon’s Lady Cougars at 5:30 p.m.
