Spotlight On Two-Sport Athlete Marisol Garcia

Riverbank’s Marisol Garcia, 13, a 2020 grad, spent most of last year’s softball campaign working in the circle, filling a key role as pitcher. This year’s season was cut short by the COVID-19 outbreak, limited to just a few games, but she saw time at third base and left field, in addition to pitching. Ric McGinnis/The News

The Riverbank High Senior Spotlight continues to shine on recent, Class of 2020 graduates. This week, we feature another two sport athlete, Lady Bruin Marisol Garcia. She excelled in both girls golf and softball.

Girls Golf

Marisol Garcia was the only senior to turn out on the links last fall, and, according to coach Ismael Mercado, was in contention to nail down an All Trans-Valley League spot, as well.

Lady Bruin Softball

Despite having their 2020 season curtailed by the COVID-19 outbreak, Riverbank softball players got in some serious preparation in the little time they did have, and senior Garcia was there to contribute.

Where, in 2019, she was pretty much all the varsity softball squad had on the mound, in the abbreviated efforts this spring, she served at third base and in left field as often as handling the load in the pitching circle. And her bat was an integral element of the Lady Bruin offense. She was hoping to be able to swing for the fences once again, in hopes of hitting another home run, as she did last year.
