Riverbank High School athletes continue to roll along in their respective spring sports seasons. League play is well underway, with squads seeing mixed results.

Lady Bruin Softball

RHS softball girls played two Mother Lode League games against Calaveras High last week.

The first was at home on Monday, March 24, with the second on Thursday, March 27 at San Andreas, in Calaveras County. Riverbank fell in both games, 7-0 and 4-1, respectively. Maya Guzman had two hits in the shutout loss at home, Alexis Felix had the only hit in the road game.

Riverbank is scheduled for two games against Linden High this week, the first slated at Linden, and then the girls will face the Lady Lions on Friday, hosting on the home field.

RHS Baseball

It was a tough week for the varsity baseball boys, as they couldn’t get past Calaveras in league action.

They lost at home, 12-2, on Tuesday, March 25 with a six-run third inning for the Red Hawks making the difference. On Friday, March 28, the boys traveled to play against Calaveras and fell in a 9-2 final; this time it was a six-run fourth inning that was the downfall for the Bruins. The squad was to play at Linden on April 1 and will host the Lions on Friday, April 4.

Bruin Volleyball

The boys had a match last week, falling 3-0 in MLL play against Big Valley Christian High School on Wednesday. They were to host Ripon High on Monday this week, travel to Modesto High on April 2 and host Ripon Christian on April 3.

Co-Ed Bruin Tennis

The boys and girls who are the Riverbank netters hosted two matches last week, with Summerville High School visiting from Tuolumne on Tuesday, March 25. That was followed by a visit from the Lions of Linden High School on Thursday, March 27.

The RHS team won both matches, 5-4 and 7-2, respectively.

Coach Bruce Edwards noted that the Summerville match came down to a “nail biter” tie breaker match.

“It went down to a third set in mixed doubles, which Riverbank won, 10-7, which was the final match of the day,” Edwards said of getting the win.

Tennis has three matches scheduled this week. They were to be at Summerville on April 1, host Bret Harte from Angels Camp on April 2, and are scheduled to welcome Calaveras in on April 3.
