Nice weather this past week meant a busy schedule for Riverbank High sports teams, though it was a short week, for the start of spring break. All of the action on the home fields happened on Wednesday and Thursday, students taking Friday off for the start of spring break.

Lady Bruin Softball

Varsity softball hosted nearby rival Escalon on Thursday afternoon, for a Trans-Valley League contest. It was a busy day, with a good-sized crowd of fans for both teams. And the fans got to watch a very exciting game.

Riverbank scored first, in the first inning, but the Lady Cougars caught up in the second inning and went ahead in the third. The Lady Bruins didn’t give up, though, fighting back to a 7-7 tie in the sixth inning, then an 8-8 score, sending the game into extra innings.

The Riverbank team held their ground until the ninth inning, where they scored their final, game winning run, finishing 9-8. Riverbank improved to 2-0 in league.

Though classes are out this week, the softball girls had a couple of makeup games scheduled, at Central Valley High School on Tuesday, and at Sierra on Thursday, April 13.

Bruin Baseball

On the boys’ diamond, varsity baseball didn’t fare as well, with Riverbank hosting Ripon High School, at the same time that softball was playing.

The Bruins fell to the Indians, in TVL play, 12-0, in six innings. The JV team lost, 21-0.

Even with the spring break in full swing this week, Riverbank baseball was scheduled to play in the Windemuth Tournament Monday through Thursday, at Modesto High School.

Bruin Co-Ed Tennis

Riverbank had two matches last week, both on away courts. Last Tuesday, April 4, was at Escalon, and Thursday was at Ripon. They fell on the road to Escalon, 7-2, though no match score was reported from Ripon.

Track and Field

Riverbank hosted Escalon and a couple of athletes from Modesto Christian on Wednesday, April 5, with the Cougars providing starters and other timing officials. They don’t have a home track to compete on, presently, so this was a home meet for them.

Bruin track and field will next see action on Wednesday, April 19, when Hughson and Modesto Christian come to town.

Boys Volleyball

Also in action Thursday, April 6 it was a loss for the volleyball boys. They hosted Hilmar but lost in straight sets, 3-0, to the visiting Yellowjackets.
