Varying results on Riverbank High’s spring scoreboards

Riverbank High School athletes found mixed results on the fields and courts while taking part in a variety of contests this past week. Some action – through not all – was in the Mother Lode League for the Bruins. Here is a wrap of recent contests.

 

Bruin Volleyball

The boys took to the home court on Monday, March 17, facing Escalon, falling to the Cougars in three straight games, 22-25, 13-25 and 9-25. They also fell to the Warriors at Orestimba High in Newman on Wednesday, March 19 in straight sets, 11-25, 12-25, 5-25.

This week, they were scheduled to travel to Hilmar to take on the Yellowjackets on Monday, then host the Lions of Big Valley Christian High School from Modesto on March 26.

 

Bruin Baseball

Riverbank hosted Summerville from Tuolumne County on Tuesday, March 18, falling to the Bears, 11-0. They also fell to Big Valley, 5-3, on Friday, March 21.

The Bruins were to host Calaveras on Tuesday afternoon, then travel to San Andreas to again take on the Red Hawks, on Friday afternoon, March 28.

 

Lady Bruin Softball

For the varsity girls, they were on the road at Modesto to take on Big Valley on Friday, losing a heartbreaking game in an extra inning, 7-6. They’re scheduled to double up on games against Calaveras this week, hosting on Tuesday, and traveling to San Andreas on Friday.

 

Bruin Co-Ed Tennis

RHS coach Bruce Edwards reports that Riverbank’s tennis squad played two successful matches last week.

Riverbank hosted Calaveras on Tuesday, March 18, finishing up the match 9-0 over the Red Hawks in Mother Lode League play. On Thursday, they traveled to Angels Camp, winning over the Bullfrogs of Bret Harte High School, 7-2.

In the Calaveras match, #1 boys seed Victor Jacobo and #2 seed James Williams won their matches in two sets, with #1 girls Nathalie Garcia also winning in two, while #2 Maya Williams won in three.

Boys #1 doubles Elijah Zamora and Matteo Ibarra won in two sets and girls #1 pair Emily Ramirez and Zaira and #2 duo Ava Maez and Noemy Torres both won in straight sets.

 

Co-Ed Track & Field

Riverbank competed in the Trans Valley League Relays on Wednesday, March 19, in Escalon.

The boys distance medley relay squad won their event, with Gustavo Ortiz, Alejandro Ochoa, Victor Bermudez and Matt Santana running a personal record at 11:13.

In the boys Open 4x110 Shuttle Hurdles, Sean Clarke, Luke Castro, JuJu Law and Daniel Orunja set a 41:13 time for second place. Luke Castro cleared a high jump of 5’ 6” for third place.

On the girls side, the Open 440 Relay saw Olivia Bulygo, Nataly Rivera, Johannah Rosillo and Samantha Silva come in second, at 4:52.65. In the Long Jump, Maya Guzman placed third, at 15’ 11” and came in second in the Triple Jump, at 33’ 6”.

The Bruins will be competing in the Tri-County Clash at Oakdale High School on Friday.
